求“thus”的用法

以下两句：
1.He sold his farm and thus he had enough money for his journey.

2.There has been no rain — thus, the crops are drying.

为何第2句的thus后要用逗号，第1句却不用？有何区别吗？

He didn't work hard. Thus he was fired.

第一句thus之前有一个and作为连接，第二句之前没有，只有一个破折号，所以用了逗号，另外，就是第二句的thus有强调的含义
