XRD analyses were performed on the samples before autoclaving, after
autoclaving and after sintering of TiO2: All the samples exhibited only peaks
corresponded to anatase phase (Fig. 1). The particle size of TiO2 crystallites
determined from the XRD peak increased as the autoclaving temperature increased.
The average particle size of the crystallites was controlled from 15 to 25 nm by
changing the autoclaving temperature from 190C to 240C (Table 1). The SEM
image revealed that these TiO2 nanocrystalline particles had very narrow particle size
distribution (Fig. 2). Thus, pure anatase nanocrystalline particles with narrow size
distribution were prepared by hydrolysis of TiCl4 aqueous solution followed by
peptization of titanium sulfate and hydrothermal treatment
