商业电影为营利而制作的影片，相对于艺术电影。 商业电影 Commeredia film 相为于艺术电影一词，一般指为营利而制作的影片。私人的电影工业大都以营利为主，因此生产的影片大都属于商业影片。在近年中，中国商业电影开始占据电影市场的主要地位，在本论文中，选取主题类似的在中西方引起广泛影响的两大影片《指环王》和《无极》，并且分别从营销和技术、影片主题和影片所反映的文化背景这三方面来进行比较，旨在重点指出中国商业电影目前的成功之处和在发展当中遇到的瓶颈。通过以上方面的分析，中国商业电影应该在内容上更多与自己的民族文化相契合，这样才能像电影《指环王》一样在赢得票房的同时也赢得全球影迷的尊重。
