5.1.6 Pipe work Installation
All trenches shall be excavated to an adequate width to permit proper laying and jointing
of pipes.
A localised cavity of adequate size shall be excavated in the bottom and sides of the
trenches at each pipe joint and sling position to allow adequate working space for
forming a sound joint and for withdrawal of slings without damage to the pipes.
The excavations shall in all cases be completed at least 6m in advance of the laying of
the pipes.
Trenches shall be properly and adequately timbered or otherwise supported and
