Final PVC compounding in a twin-screw extruder and the mech,strength of PVC pipes have been studied in relation to PVC formulation ,extruder screw design,and extrusion conditions.The exptl,studies have shown the final compounding to be often incomplete whereby the PVC blend remains inadequately homogenized.A comprehensive anal,of the test results obtained on a twin-screw extuder leads,to the conclusion that apart from the dry-blend formulation and extrusion conditions,the final compounding is significantly affected by the screw geometry.All the affecting parameters are strongly interdependent.While designing the conical screw geometry,difficulties related to the profile milling operations of the screw flights should be taken into consideration to achieve proper clearances between the screws in the individual screw zones.
