In Chorus of Mushrooms by Hiromi Goto, each character builds their identities as Japanese – Canadian by different methods. The story states the three generation of women conflicted by the problem of being a Japanese and a Canadian. Naoe and keiko both have different level of feelings about their unique identity.The granddaughter Murasaki struggles in the position between the two extremes and her identity as a Japanese -Canadian.

Keiko is one of the outstanding characters in the story because she is kind of a person that would do whatever to fit in the society, no matter it is right or wrong. This character makes reader more memorable.
