PLC的工作原理与计算机的工作原理基本上一致，可以简单的表述为在系统程序的管理下，通过运行应用程序完成用户任务。但个人计算机与PLC的工作方式有所不同，计算机一班采用等待命令的工作方式，如常见的键盘扫描方式和I/O扫描方式，当键盘有按下或者I/O口有信号输入时中断，转入相应的子程序。PLC在确定工作任务，装入专用程序后便成为一种专用机，它采用循环扫描工作方式，系统工作任务管理及洪湖程序的执行都是用循环扫描方式来完成。
PLC的结构多种多样，但其组成的一般原理基本相同，都是以微处理器为核心的结构，其功能的实现不仅基于硬件的作用，更要靠软件的支持，实际上可编程控制器就是易用新型的工业控制计算机。PLC的硬件系统和软件系统共同组成PLC系统。PLC的硬件系统大体相同，主要由中央处理器（CPU）、存储器（RAM、ROM）、输入/输出模块（I/O接口）、电源及编程器几大部分组成。软件系统是指PLC所使用的各种程序的集合，通常分为系统程序和用户程序。

The working principle of the programmable logic controller and the computer is consistent basically, finish the task through the application in brief the expression of manager. But the PC and the programmable logic controller is different in the working , the PC’s working is waiting for the order, for example, the keyboard’s scan and I/O’s scan, the program enter the subprogram when the keyboard is pressed or I/O receive the signal . the programmable logic controller is special machine after it is login the special program, it is working in the scan cycle ,the manager and execute of system is finished in the scan cycle.
