请问：为什么用were faced ？faced 在这里是什么词性？were 是系动词faced是形容词吗？

be faced with...被动语态：面临...
face动词

were expecting过去进行时
were faced with 一般过去被动形式，were不是系动词，是助动词

从前半句就能看出这句子是过去时态,后面的WERE是和前面的那个WERE统一而已.

应该是被动语态
