请问这句话的主语是often前的部分吗?如果是,为什么often后要用is? 感觉应该用are

前三部分(being...,fooling...and refusing...)是主语，谓语用 is 是对的；主语多个，谓语可随主语中的第一个。
in conversation or in life 是整句的条件状语。不只限定refusingto focus 部分。

这句话主语应该是“Being..，fooling around...，和refusing..”这三个并列结构，我对语法不是很专长，但是我感觉谓语就应该用is，要是我写作文就一定用is，不能看主语有三个就应该用复数形式，这里三个并列的成分表示的不是具体的实物，而是状态；“in conversation or in life”，从语义和其前面用的破折号来看，应该是限定前面三个部分的。供参考。
