MAYOR AUTRY Describes lack of water storage funding AS an ‘egregious example’ of partisan politics

(FRESNO , CA May 5, 2006) – Mayor Alan Autry expressed outrage in the wake of a major state legislative decision early this morning that will jeopardize the economy of the Central Valley. Although the $37.3 billion public works spending package will bring $1 billion to Highway 99, it failed to provide funding for water storage which is a fundamental requirement for economic prosperity and public health.

"A bond package of this magnitude without water storage will ensure that the San Joaquin Valley remains the most impoverished region in America. The responsibility for the economic and public health disaster that will certainly befall the poorest of the poor as a result of this action falls squarely on the shoulders
