第一个问题：
据我现在微薄的英语知识，你可能看漏了一个单词，就是it。making it impossible passing out AIDS literature and expecting people to read it.因为现在的句子宾语是impossible passing ..and expecting...这完全说不通，加入it之后passing and expecting 都是it得同位语，解释说明it得内容。impossible是宾语的补足语。
第二个问题：
