2.6.4 GAUGE ERROR FEED-FORWARD

In Gauge Error Feed-Forward, GEFF, instead of waiting for an error to appear on the outgoing side of the mill and correcting for it, as in GEFB, the feed-forward control measures the gauge error on the ingoing side and uses the ingoing error to form the basis of control. The measured ingoing gauge error is delayed in a feed-forward store according to the transport distance of the measuring gauge to the roll bite and the ingoing strip speed. The gauge error is retrieved from the feed-forward store prior to actual arrival of the strip element, which was previously measured. The timing, or phase advance, of the retrieval of the data from the feed-forward store depends on the response time of the RFCs and the time constant of the measuring gauge. An additional lead term may be of benefit as the RFC performance depends on the frequency of the disturbance.
