whose只用于限制性定语从句

不是，非限定性定语从句也可以用，只要先行词在从句中作定语的，就可以用whose。
eg. The man pulled out a gold watch, whose hands were made of small diamonds.

whose是关系代词，修饰名词作定语，相当于所修饰成分的前置所有格
一般定语从句which用的较多（指物）
whose用来连接从句，从句的内容修饰某个人有什么样的东西。
whose引导定语从句时,通常可与of which/of whom引导的定语从句进行转换
