直接引语为陈述句时，下列情况中的that不可省略：
1、当宾语从句作直接宾语时，请帮忙举个例子；
2、当宾语从句中的状语置于从句句首时，请帮忙举个相关的例子；
3、当两个或两个以上的宾语从句并列时，仅能省略第一个that，其余的不可省略，请帮忙举个相关的例子。

纠正一下，你的问题不是直接宾语（引号内的原话），而是间接宾语。
1、当宾语从句作直接宾语时，

He told me that I had to be there on time. (me是间接宾语)

2、当宾语从句中的状语置于从句句首时，

He said that when he reached they had already been there waiting for him.

3、当两个或两个以上的宾语从句并列时，

The teachers suggested that the boy (should) do more reading and the girl go out for some exercises.

1 He told me that（不能省） we should be strong.
2 She said that（不能省）when she arrived, he'd already gone.
3 I konw that(可以省) he's gone and that（不能省）he's never coming back.
