我觉得第一句后半句是说lateral force让鱼头前进的方向与鱼尾的方向偏离。
第二句后半句则是说lateral force让鱼头和鱼尾方向一致。
IN THE SAME DIRECTION AT THE TAIL难道不是修饰THE COURSE吗?

你第二句的理解是对的。第一句就不是了。
fish's head deviate from the course - 使鱼头偏离方向
偏离到哪里呢？就是in the same direction at the tail，跟尾部同一个方向。in the same direction是修饰the tail.
所以第一句跟第二局说的是一样的。
