问一道英语初三题目原因

D hundreds of
应该选C，可为什么有了个the 就不可以选D呢

hundreds thousands等词后面跟复数名词，不加冠词。

D 不该加S有OF就不加而且语法上of后的名词是要加THE

hundreds of 加名词是 成百上千的什么什么
five hundred of 是 什么什么中的五百个。
语言这东西有时候没有为什么，人家就愿意这样说，或者是有典故或历史影响。就像‘影响’为什么不是‘音响’？这样的问题可以回答嘛？
