A、英语只是一种沟通的语言以及工具。作为一种外语，它只是在涉及外国人、外交事务、外语文献和情报资料、涉外旅游、涉外经济等方面才需要。许多人非常艰难地学习英语，不是因为日常生活需要，不是为了装饰，很多时候仅是学习上，工作上的需要。目前英语在中国的发展状况，英语成绩的好坏直接影响着人们升学、升级、晋职、就业等各个方面。英语成绩的好坏，很多时候作为衡量一个人能力的标准，英语在此时似乎不仅仅是一门语言工具，更像是一块敲门砖。
许多学生虽然并不愿意学英语，而在现行教育制度和社会压力下，为了一张文凭别无选择。考研、考博，其目的本来是为了提高专业水平，选择更高水平的学生和人才，这是考试最直接、最根本的目的。但从目前现状来看，专业成绩却排在后面，英语成了最重要的指标。
B、过度的追求、崇拜英语的学习，忽略了中文的学习。
中国人从来没有像今天这样重视英语的学习，这无疑是一件好事情，但是这样的环境很容易给人，尤其是小学生（包括许多家长在内），造成一种错觉，认为英语比汉语还重要，从而忽视汉语的学习。小学生的汉语水平也处在一个发展的过程之中，如何处理好英语与汉语之间的关系是小学英语教学需要认真考虑的问题。
学生学习英语的过程中势必要接触英语国家的文化。但是，我们在重视外国文化的同时，却很容易忽视中国文化。在我国目前广泛使用的各种英语教材中，与中国文化相关的课文内容微乎其微。由此而产生的后果是显而易见的，对于中国的英语学习者来说，英语学习的重要目的之一是使用英语传播中华民族的优秀文化，而许多的英语学习者在通过了四级、六级考试甚至英语专业毕业之后，都不知道“孔子”在英语中应该怎么说，《红楼梦》、《水浒传》、《三国演义》、《聊斋志异》等中国古典文学名著在英语中该怎样翻译。小学生的价值观与道德观都处在形成的过程之中，他们思想活跃，易于接受新鲜事物，但是又缺乏一定的鉴别能力，在学习异国文化的过程中，如果不善加引导，他们很容易盲目地接受西方文化中的价值观、道德观和行为规范，很容易忘记甚至疏远自己民族的文化传统（清华大学外语系博士）
