VITAMIN B12 Injection
Composition
Cyanocobalamin
Presentation
As ampoules of strength 1,000 mcg. Also in 10 ml multidose vials of two strengths:1,000 mcg,and 2,000 mcg, in each ml.
Preservative
Benzyl Alcohol 0.015 ml/ml
(As this preparation contains Benzyl Alcohol, its use should be avoided in chileren under two years of age. Not to be used in neonates.)
Action
Increases haemopoieais.
Indication
For the treatment of pernicious anaemia and its neurological complication. Its action can be augmented by the simultaneous oral treatment with folic and/or "intrinsic factor"
Precaution
In large doses allergic reactions have been reported only rarely. It's not known whether these were related to the preservative or the drug.
Dosage and Administration
Subcutaneous or intramuscular injection: the usual initial dose is 0.25 to 1 mg on alternate days for 1 to 2 week
