The processing steps are similar to any silicon foundry process except in this case on to large glass sheets. The row and column drive signals to the TFT control charge applied across the local cell defined by the TFT itself plus an associated pair of transparent electrodes placed opposite one another on the active and passive plate. This charge is the bias for the local light valve.
