Negative points of puritanism

The Protestantism, mainly the Calvinism thought the holy bible as the largest authority. They stood to the Mosaic laws rigidly, protesting any power of the world should be limited. In order to prevent the evil, they even cultivated themselves in the families and the churches. Also, according to the god’s orders, the churches could persecute anyone who offended the canons by punishing him pilloried or even sentencing him to death. It showed how cruel the religious atmosphere was at that time

以加尔文教为主的新教比以往更加强调《圣经》的权威，严格恪守摩西十戒，进而认为人间的一切权力必须受到限制。为了预防和抵制罪恶，他们把家庭和教会变成了修身的场所。教会可以根据“上帝的旨意”以教规代替法律，对异己或触犯十戒者进行迫害，轻则戴枷示众；重则施行甚至处死。由此可见，当时社会中扼杀人性的宗教统治气氛。
