Use and abuse tests (impact, torque, tension, compression and flexure) as specified in the FHSA Regulations are conducted to evaluate whether a product contains mechanical hazards (small parts, sharp points and sharp edges) prior to or after reasonable use and abuse of a toy.
ASTM specifies tests and requirements beyond the FHSA Regulations to address hazards such as, but not limited to, strangulation, impaction, projection, and electrical and tip-over hazards.
Note: All samples are to be tested according to either the appropriate age grade as determined by the testing lab, or the labeled age grade, whichever is more stringent.
