少踩了两级台阶 怎么翻译

到书店时看到一个年轻人正下楼梯，匆忙中少踩了最后两级楼梯，摔倒在地上。
是有具体的对应翻译呢,还是要会意的翻译??

我觉得用miss（未达到，错过）可以表达这种含义：
miss the last two steps 少踩了两级台阶

skipped/missed two steps on stairs and fell down
