Energy saving lamps: Antidumping duty on Chinese energy saving lamps
The Danish Minister for Environment and Energy, Svend Auken, wrote letters to EU-commissioners Loyola de Palacio and Margot Wallstr鳇 on 2 May 2001 drawing their attention to the serious consequences for EU climate and energy policy targets of a prolongation of the penal duty on Chinese energy saving lamps. He also asked them to exercise their influence in the course of the Commission抯 internal procedures to ensure that the important Community interest aspects concerning energy and environmental objectives are taken fully into account before any decision of the Commission is taken.

As from February 8 2001, the European Commission has introduced a temporary duty on CFLs (compact fluorescent lights) imported from China. The duty has been introduced because of a claim of dumping made by the European Lighting Companies Federation, which encompasses European producers such as Osram, Sylvania and Philips.
