It is a well known problem, that XP and Windows 2000 will refuse to start if you move a harddisk containing a system to a different motherboard. Since the harddisk controller is different, a message like:
STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF741B84C,0xC0000034,0x00000000,0x00000000) INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE
will appear on the screen and the start is aborted. Microsoft knowledgebase article 314082 explains how to fix this problem.
However what they dont tell, is what to do If you dont have the original computer or motherboard any more.
This happens rather often, so I decided to publish a step by step HowTo for fixing this problem.
The following procedure is tested on a windows 2000 and a windows XP system using an IDE drive. However, I give no warranty what it will do to your computer or if it simply does not work in your case. SCSI drives should work similar, but you have to create the registry patch file yourself. The one from here only supports IDE drives:<

操作:
从未知系统连接你的硬盘到你的电脑, 并设定为第二顺位引导.
未知硬盘的连接后, 设定为SLAVE HD.
用你的原有系统启动你的电脑.
阅读 Microsoft knowledgebase 的帮助文章(确认是否和以上的步骤相同)
做 %SystemRoot%\System32\config 文件夹的备份.
最好备份上面这个文件夹, 以防万一你做错了什么, 你就可以恢复你的系统.
使用注册表编辑器:
打开注册表(2000是regedt32, XP是regedit)
用鼠标标记 "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE"
进入 "Registry"-menu, 选择 "load hive"
寻找 "%SystemRoot%\System32\config" 文件夹. (2000是\winnt\system32\config)(XP是 \windows\system32\config)
打开SYSTEM文件夹.
当被系统问及名字的时候, 使用"aaaa"(这很重要, 它必须和你从这里下载的文件一致)
关闭注册表编辑器.
双击你从这个页面得到的扩展文件. 你有俩个选择:mergeide.reg or mergeide1.reg.(太专业, 不明白) 区别在于mergeide1.reg不包含所有的驱动程序. 大多数时候, 他们会被自动安装. 第一次的时候也许尝试这个版本比就安全. 如果mergeide1.reg不好用, 重复过程并且用mergeide1.reg.确认加入到WINDOWS的注册表里面.
