我认为应该是这样：

不要生活在过去

not in the past 无论怎么划分成分都不对，用一个not来否定一个副词短语，然后独立出来解释，这是很难准确把握的。如果是 be not in the past 那可以翻译为：不是在过去。当然这也许是一个句子的一个部分，但是这样独立作为一个成分是没有的，即使是比如：You should live in the nonce rather than(也不能直接用not啊） in the past.
