南极洲的气候特点是酷寒、干旱、多风暴。全洲年平均气温为－25℃，内陆高原平均气温为－56℃左右，极端最低气温曾达－89.2℃，为世界最冷的陆地。全洲年平均降水量为55毫米，仅大陆边缘地区可达500毫米左右，大陆内部年降水量仅30毫米左右，极点附近几乎无降水，空气非常干燥，有“白色荒漠”之称。全洲平均风速17-18米／秒，沿岸地面风速常达45米／秒，最大风速可达75米／秒以上，是世界上风力最强和最多风的地区。

The average air temperature of the whole land is -25℃, the average air temperature of the inland tableland is about -56℃, the extremity lowest temperature ever reached －89.2℃, which is the gelidest place of the world.The average rainfall of the whole land is about 55mm(millimeter), but just the fringe area can reach about 500mm, the inland only about 30mm, the apices nearly without rainfall, and the air is very dryness, which called "white hungriness". The average wind speed of the whole land is about 17-18m/s(meter per second), of the coastwise area usually reach 45m/s, and the fastest speed can reach more than 75m/s. So it is the most windy area where there is strongest wind power in the world.
