新课程改革是中国基础教育深刻的变革，校本研究与新课程相适应，成为推进基础教育课程改革推进过程中的一个必要和必备的重要机制。随着课程改革的深化，基础教育事业的发展，校本研究将成为学校发展，教师发展，学生成长的一种迫切需要的发展策略。校本研究把研究作为一种事业，以研究为线索，统领教学工作，教师专业发展，不仅可以在教师和学校的发展中产生重要作用，更可以为学生的发展提供必要的平台。
本文通过对中学历史学科小本教研的深入调查研究，试图揭示中学历史学科校本教研的现状，分析历史学科实施校本教研的迫切性以及制约校本教研开展的因素，进而对中学历史学科有校开展小本教研提出了可供操作的意见和建议。
本文分三个部分。第一部分从校本教研的产生与发展轨迹入手，阐述了校本教研的实质，基本要素，基本理念和校本教研的实践，从历史教师职前教育现状及其存在的问题，历史教师继续教育现状及其存在的问题，历史学科教学现状和传统教研模式这四个方面分析中学历史教学实施校本教研的迫切性。以案例的形式介绍我市历史学科实施校本教研的三种主要模式：课例研究，课题研究和叙事研究。第三部分对我市中学历史学科校本教研的开展情况进行分析，归纳总结存在的问题以及制约其发展的因素;在分析基础上提出解决问题的建议：创建学习型校园是校本教研的基础，让教师尝到教学研究的乐趣，“引领教师走上教学研究这条幸福之路”，切实减轻教师负担，让教师从繁杂的事务性工作中解脱出来，制度完善是校本教研的根本保障和网络教研——历史学科校本教研的新载体。
本文强调学校是教育真正发生的地方，只有基于学校真实的问题才有研究的意义。强调教师是校本教研的主体，校本教研营造学习型的学校文化氛围，为教师构建了专业发展的平台。
