作为北宋的著名词人，柳永创作了大量的俗词，这其间有歌词创作特定的社会和
历史背景。一方面，隋唐之际发生、形成的曲子词，原是配合一种全新的音乐—燕乐歌唱的。“燕”通“宴”，即酒宴间流行的助兴音乐。其主要功能是娱乐，演奏和歌
唱者皆为文化素养不高的下层乐工、歌妓。且燕乐曲调之来源，主要途径有二:来自
边地或外域的少数民族，如《苏幕遮》、《菩萨蛮》、《胡渭州》等等;来自民间的土风
歌谣，如《竹枝》、《麦秀两歧》等等。因此，通俗浅易是其必然特征。另一方面，词
以描写艳情为主，它是中国文学发展史上第一个抒写艳情恋思的专门文体。“诗言志，词言情”、“词为艳科”便是宋词创作的主流倾向，其题材集中在伤春悲秋、离愁别绪、
风花雪月、男欢女怨等方面。张炎曰:“簸弄风月，陶写性情，词婉于诗。盖声出莺
吭燕舌间，稍近乎情可也。”①就是对这方面特征的一个总结。同时这也与创作主体本
身密切相关。有宋以来，随着城市经济的繁荣，市民阶层的日益壮大，出于文化娱乐
生活的需要(而这种需要又正与宋代统治者堰武修文、粉饰太平的方略暗合)，出现
自上而下的创制“新声”局面，所谓:“风暖繁弦脆管，万家竞奏新声”②是也。柳永
身逢其时，遂投身于青楼楚馆的俗文化圈子，一长期混迹于市井文化的氛围里，从而成
为宋代市井文化的代表人物和先驱者。下面就从表现和成因两方面对柳永的市井文化
