本论文设计的控制系统能控制两台稳压泵和两台消防主泵。稳压泵由工频电源供电，给消防管网及气压罐供水，使气压罐内始终储有30秒的消防水量，消防主泵由变频器供电恒压供水。稳压泵主要起到补水增压的作用，在管道系统渗漏使消防管网水压下降时自动投入工作。消防泵主要在发生火灾时投入运行，以消防管网的压力变送器压力信号作为反馈信号，反馈信号与PID调节仪设定值比较后输出，调节消防供水压力使其保持在恒压状态。
本系统设计以PLC为控制核心，实现了全自动控制的功能。两台稳压泵一用一备轮流工作交替运行，有故障能自动切换。两台消防泵也是一用一备，均能工频和变频运行，发生故障时备用泵能自动投入运行。当一台消防泵变频运行后水压仍然低于设定水压，备用泵会自动投入工作联合供水。本系统还设置了手动和自动的功能，并与消防控制中心联网，维护和管理非常方便。
