2 Air springs in short
Section 2.1 is part of a literature study, which was undertaken in the beginning of this Master of Science Project. It serves as an introduction to the reader who has no previous knowledge of air springs. The text is based on extractions from different sources [A1],[A2], [A3], and [A4] which have been put together to summarize the most important characteristics of air springs.

2.1 General
Vibration isolation is achieved conventionally by supporting a body on a vibration isolator. As a general rule, the natural frequency of the body-and-isolator system must be substantially lower than the excitation frequency.
The deflection of the isolator under the load of the supported body is inversely
proportional to the square of the natural frequency. Thus, the static deflection is large when the natural frequency is low.
