Poem Analysis
From Long Distance – Tony Harrison
Theme: Death, Nostalgia

“From Long Distance” is written by Tony Harrison, whom is an English poet born in 1937. He is also a playwright. The poem has a fixed rhyme scheme, and every sentence has either 10 or 11 stresses. The poem is about the narrator’s parents passing away. At first, the narrator could not understand why his father can’t let go of his mother’s death, however, when his father also passed away, he is echoing his father’s actions.

In the first stanza, the narrator tells the reader that his mother has passed away, and also tells the readers how his father deals with death. Readers can see that his father basically could not handle the death of narrator’s mother
