据中国医院协会2002年调查报告统计显示：全国现有医院药学技术人员(含中、西药)365440人，其中药师以上技术人员占66.59%，药师占33.41%。药师以上技术人员中主任药师占0.41%，副主任药师占3.37%，主管药师占28.05%，药师占68.17%。医院药学技术人员整体学历偏低。正、副主任具大学本科学历占60.31%，大专学历占20.83%，中专学历占17.07%，高中学历占1.79%。在全部医院药学技术人员中具有本科学历仅占20.54%，具大专学历占16.44%，而近63%的人员只具中专及中专以下学历。医院药学技术人员整体素质偏低。具有副高以上职称的药学人员中有近40%人员是大专或中专毕业晋升的。主管药师中约50%是中专毕业，2.62%是护理人员转行的，5.31%是高、初中毕业未接受系统药学专业教育的。全国现有医疗机构约32.4万家，平均每个医疗机构拥有药学技术人员仅1.13人。

According to the 2002 investigation reports of the China Hospital Association, presently in the country, there are 365440 pharmaceutical technicians in hospitals (inclusive of Chinese and Western medicines), of which 66.59% are technicians with level of pharmacist and above, and pharmacists constitute 33.41%. Amongst the technicians with pharmacist level and above, 0.41% are chief pharmacists, 3.37% are deputy chief pharmacists, 28.05% are managing pharmacists and 68.17% are pharmacists. The overall academic credentials of pharmaceutical technicians in hospitals are on the low side; 60.31% of the chiefs and deputy chiefs possess bachelor degrees, 20.83% with diploma, 17.07% with technical high school certificates and with1.79% graduated from high schools.
