去年我国池窑玻璃纤维纱产量达到113万吨，2000～2007年池窑玻璃纤维纱产量年平均增长率高达51％。与此同时，我国玻璃纤维纱出口量年平均增长率也到达47％，2007年我国玻璃纤维纱出口56万吨，占当年全国玻璃纤维纱总量35％。玻璃纤维纱价格自2007年年初开始上涨，今年年初全国玻璃纤维纱平均出厂价格每吨突破7000元，其中细纱价格更是在平均每吨8500元以上。在出口增长和价格上升的刺激下，随着今年浙江、广东等地新生产线的投产，今年全国玻璃纤维纱产量继续保持高速增长。在今年玻璃纤维纱产量，特别是池窑产量高速增长的背后，实际上已潜伏着危机。8月份玻璃纤维纱当月出口量同比增长率从上月的40％下跌到下降1％。在今年以前，玻璃纤维纱产销时常出现供不应求的现象，而今年8月份全国池窑企业玻璃纤维纱销量11万吨，是今年除2月份以外的最低水平，比7月份下降1.7万吨，当月玻璃纤维纱产销率89％，是2005年以来所罕见的低水平；1-8月份全国池窑企业玻璃纤维纱累计产销率95％，比年初下降6个百分点，8月末全国池窑企业玻璃纤维纱库存量达到13万吨，也就是说占今年池窑累计产量12％的产量没有销出去。自第二季度开始，全国玻璃纤维纱价格，特别是粗纱价格已呈现出下降趋势。
我国玻璃纤维纱最大出口对象是美国。受美国经济衰退影响，今年上半年我国对美国玻璃纤维纱出口比去年同期下降15％。在今后一段时期我国玻璃纤维纱出口将受到影响，如何扩大内需是今后玻璃纤维工业发展的关键。我国已缔造了一个世界一流的玻璃纤维纱制造业，呼唤着一个强大的玻璃纤维制品制造业。
