New Year’s is a time of emotional highs and visually dazzling images such as those broadcast on our TV screens from Times Square or those created in the skies above us by fireworks.

While we are trying to entertain ourselves, we should use caution, even if we think we know it all. Directions on packages of fireworks should be read thoroughly and followed exactly.

Also, children – especially little kids – shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near fireworks, much less be allowed to shoot them. They will have a better and safer experience learning about them when they are older.

For now, they should just focus on the sky and be entertained. Otherwise they could suffer serious injuries such as burns due to exploding fireworks.
