这句话缺介词吗? 怎么分析成分?(有点复杂,高手进)

在刊物上看到这句:He had been close to us through the years he had served us.
我本来觉得这句话最外面一层的主句是He had been close to us, 而through the years是时间状语,he had served us是个定语从句修饰先行词the years。但是仔细一想,我觉得如果它是定语从句,应该是He had been close to us through the years through/during/in which he had served us.或者用He had been close to us through the years when he had served us. 不能因为主句里本身有了个through就把定语从句里的那个through(或during/in)给省略了呀。
又比如“他住在他们以前住过的房子里”这句翻译应该是“He lives in the house which they lived in before. 或He lives in the house in which they lived before.(这样只是把介词提前到关系代词前)”或者干脆把in the house看作一个状语作先行词部分,翻译成“He lives in the house where they lived before.”
请高手帮我看看,是我把句子成分分析错了,还是刊物上的这句话错了呢?

你本来的判断是正确的,是he had been close to us是主句。
刊物上的这句话我觉得有错,
以前还有一句歌词是说through the years when I was with you
所以这话应该有点问题吧。。。

应该是这样吧;两个时间表示的是同一个时间,所以which省略了

凭我的语感。。。刊物上的话没错,第一眼看过去就是你本来觉得的意思。至于你的高级的分析which我貌似不是很在行,我觉得语言有时候是不能像理科一样公式化处理的,所有语言都在进步,都在改变的,英语也一样,总的趋势是越来越简练。
