子欲居九夷。或曰: 陋,如之何? 子曰: 君子居之,何陋之有?

孔子想要住在偏远的地方，有人说：“那里很简陋，怎么办呢？”孔子说：“有德行的人居住在那里，有什么简陋的呢？”

九夷：古时对东方民族的称谓。北称戎，东称夷，南称蛮等。孔子见中原无明君举用他，遂有居住于九夷之意。或：有的人。陋：僻陋，指夷地僻陋，不通于礼义。孔子认为，君子居住在那里，又怎么会僻陋呢？孔子对自己的德行，非常的有自信。相信自己只要居住于此，那怕是不通于礼义之地，凭自己的德，也可以感化当地居民，让他们明礼知义。

]On one occasion Confucius said he would go and live among the barbarous tribes in the East: “You will there,” remarked somebody, “feel the want of refinement.” “Where a wise and good man lives,” replied Confucius, “there will be no want of refinement.”
