26.4 Analysis of records
26.4.1 General
In the past, intermittent wave records were normally produced in the form of a pen trace on a continuous
chart roll, which would then be processed manually (see 26.4.2). Chart recordings can be converted into
digital data and analysed on a computer to produce the required parameters (see 26.4.3).
The hand analysis of chart recordings is time consuming and has been replaced by electronic recording and
direct computer analysis. It is wise to retain the raw data, whichever recording system is used, in order to
identify malfunctions in the equipment.
