Frequency response, in general, can be a misleading piece of information without the amount of upper and lower limit deviation expressed.
With some devices the upper and lower ends of the range are reproduced at a lower level than a reference within the range. Thus the plotted response curve resembles the rounded top of a mountain where the reference is the mild peak and the extremes are the side low points. When the amount of deviation between a limit and reference is high, this curve becomes more steep. The greater the amplitude between these two points, it is obvious that the lower point will be reproduced with very little intensity. Thus the expression flat response over the range is very desirable as the deviation between the extremes and the reference is very slight. Specifically if the mountain top curve is reduced to a slight plateau, the extremes will be reproduced at a very usable level.
The extremes here are reproduced at one half the power of the reference.
