一、 任务的设计
任务的设计是一个关键。除了考虑学生的兴趣和情景的真实性以外，还要考虑到学生的认知和个性差异，有针对性地设计不同层次的任务，由简到繁，由易到难，层层深入，使教学阶梯式地层层递进。素质教育不是精英教育，我们要让大部分学生都能完成任务。学生只有在经过战胜困难后取得成功时，才会感受到真正的成就感，才能产生更持久的学习热情。因此，教师可以给所有学生同样的材料，但设计不同层次的任务，并给予不同程度的帮助；也可以把难易程度不同的材料给不同学生，共同执行一个大任务。执行过程中，组织学生以小组为单位，优差结合，团队成员各尽其职，发挥各自的优势和特长，共同合作完成任务。
例如，在教授Going Shopping! 时，要学生以小组为单位完成一项总任务：以商家的身份做一份商品宣传单。他们的具体分工是：
1、.由学习基础较弱的同学收集相关词汇：cotton, leather, woolen, pants, etc.
2、.由中等生去调查宣传单具体所包含的内容：商品的适宜人群，质地，价位和尺码等。
3、.由基础较好的同学将调查结果汇总，小组各成员再进行讨论。
4.、最后由基础较好的同学将讨论结果用文字表述出来。
二.、 创设情景，注重交际
任务型活动的目的是培养学生“用英语做事”的能力，即实际运用语言的能力。教师引导学生通过完成具体的任务活动来学习语言，那么任务的设计要提供给学习者明确、真实的语言信息。语言情境、语言形式等要符合交际的功能和规律，使学习者在一种自然、真实或模拟真实的情境中体会、掌握和应用语言。
又如，学生在完成Going Shopping!的商品宣传单后，学生将进入课堂学习阶段。这时，教师可将课堂设置成“商场”，分别在教室设四个服装专柜，将每组成员提供的服装作为商品，由两人一组充当顾客就商品进行咨询。
