《路人献稚》译文

一个挑着野鸡的楚国人。一个过路的人问他说：“这是什么鸟？”挑着野鸡的人欺骗他说：“是凤凰。”过路的人说：“我听说过凤凰，今天恰巧看到了它。你卖给我？”挑着野鸡的楚国人说：“好的。”过路的人用十个货币买了下来，买野鸡的人不给；要他加价，才给他。那人想要把它献给楚王，经过一夜凤凰就死了。过路人来不及痛惜他的钱，只遗憾不能够把凤凰献给楚王。全国人都在传这件事，都认为是真的凤凰。赞赏想要献给楚王凤凰的人，就被楚王听到了。楚王被他要献凤凰的精神所感动。让他过来厚厚地赏赐了他，比买凤凰的价钱超过十倍。
