同时指出，对于商业化的媒体而言，受众对新闻报道的选择自主权也是促使新闻报道娱乐化的重要原因，而“娱乐化的新闻报道”（语言/内容/形式等）也对受众的兴趣取向和价值取向产生了深刻的影响：当整体的新闻环境都开始向“娱乐化”转换时，娱乐化的新闻报道造就了以娱乐化的眼光态度看待评判世界的受众，而受众的这种兴趣取向又促进了娱乐化的新闻报道的进一步发展。两者之间的互动关系周而复始，循环往复，使得新闻报道的娱乐化越演越烈。
于是新闻报道在受众兴趣的偏向和新闻机构追求利益的双重作用下，越来越脱离固有的真实世界的样貌，所报道的不再是“客观的世界”，而是“受众和媒体所希望看到的世界”，娱乐化的顶峰，便是新闻报道成为经过策划的，取悦受众的手段。
