班级规模方面：中国学校的班级规模一般在50人左右，而西方只有15至20人；课堂上，中国的学生比较安静，而西方的学生比较活跃；每周，中国的学生大概要上33节课，而且很多学生还在周未时忙着补课，而西方学生每周只上23节课，周未从来不补课；每年，中国学生大概有3个月的假期，而西方学生则有5个月假期；每年，中国学生学习的时间超过2400个小时，而西方学生学习时间不超过1500个小时。
在课程方面：中国学校比较侧重知识的深度，中学的教学一直以高考为主，而西方学校的教学则以培养学生的个人能力为主；在学校的授课方面，中学以单方授课为主，主要讲解记忆性的基本知识，而西方学校课堂上双向交流，而知识点的传授也以发展学生的自身想象为主；中国的考试复习以大量的练习为主，而西方学校则以扩大阅读量来帮助学生理解和掌握知识。
在对待知识的态度方面：中国的学生积极吸收知识，而西方学生则持怀疑、批判的态度；对于学生创造力的培养，中国学生多数根据自己已有的经验、规则和定律来判断，而西方学生则富有挑战性、批判精神和创造力；中国的家长对孩子的学习寄予很高希望，把考试作为评判标准，甚至一些家长主动辅导孩子的学习，而西方的家长重视学科学习的同时，也很重视学生的课外实践，并很少辅导孩子的学习。
