为什么句首是进行时的呢？

现在分词短语作方式状语，

“刚读完第一个句子，编辑就拒绝出版这篇文章”

类似的有
The teacher came in,taking a book in her hand
老师进来了，手里拿着本书

不同的是楼主那句是用的完成时，read的动作已经结束，这句是用的进行时，take的动作还没结束

不知道这样解释清楚吗？

读完第一句话，主编拒绝刊登这篇文章。
不是进行时，而是一种用法。having done sth，作了什么之后。
Having graduated from this school ,he went to America.

动名词 作主语
