自20世纪70年代以来，研究旅游地居民对事件旅游影响的感知和态度逐渐成为国外旅游研究的重要课题。文章在对国内外相关研究进行评述的基础上，以广东省省运会为例，对城市居民对事件旅游综合影响的感知进行了详细研究。采用问卷调查法，对城市居民对省运会产生的经济、社会文化、环境影响进行定性分析。研究表明，省运会的举办带动了当地经济的发展，提升了城市形象，促进了当地体育文化事业的发展，同时保护和继承了正在消失的传统艺术及民俗文化；另一方面，省运会的的举办可能导致社会犯罪行为的增加，在交通、噪音、废弃物等方面对当地居民的正常生活产生负面影响，在一定程度上会造成城市物价的上涨，事件活动举办过后，如果后续开发不力，大型活动建造的场馆、建筑和其它一些设施将出现闲置状况．
