The bonding zone of the steel plates to the concrete blocks affects the way the stresses develop within the test specimen when subjected to loading. The bonding location adopted for the laboratory tests was studied by means of a linear analysis of models constructed with the help of the LUSAS finite-element program, without using temperature variation (Fig. 2).In these models, the load applied to each plate (5 kN) was developed along its plane, in a x-axis direction and at the end of the plate (C) (Fig. 2). The model used did not allow displacements in the x-axis direction on the face (D) of the concrete block. The properties of the materials used in the model are given in Tables 1 and 2. Poisson’s ratio of the concrete,steel, and resin is 0.2, 0.3, and 0.37, respectively.
