given前省略了什么?什么时候这样用?

过去分词given做后置定语，可以不看作省略了什么词。直接修饰前面的名词money，与被修饰者是被动关系，是被（由）政府给钱。不过这个句子英文就语言来说是对的，但意思不正确，我国人民只有一小部分是靠政府给钱来生活的。

Chinese were living on money (which is) given to them by the government.
宾语从句的时候关系代词可以省略

given之前省略了“that is”或“which is”
这里是过去分词作“后置定语”，该分词相当于省略了助动词“be”的定语从句。
又如：He sent the roses bought from the flower-shop to his girlfriend. 句中“bought from the flower-shop”作“the roses”的后置定语。
