最近做英语阅读 遇到一个句子

attribute也可以用做attribute…to… 意思是 “认为… 是由于…”这里的 historians 是attibute 的主语，在句中attibute是用的过去分词，也就是被动形式，其后接一个by 就是引出主语的作用，其实是historians attribute excessive influence to the puritans(清教徒)in the formation of American culture. 只不过这里要用 excessive influence 作宾语，所以句子结构就变成了从句的形式
