I have a question about TOEFL grammer, could someone shed some light on it? thx in advance

"The participants generally agreed on which two emotions were being shown and which emotion was more intense."

why is "were being shown" used here? Is there any difference between "were shown" and "were being shown"?

Does the latter one mean to underlie the action?

I appreciate anything helps

Hi
yeah,i got it.
could mind if i explain via Chinses?

this sentence emphise on the situation it happened.

be + doing 是过去进行时,be+done被动时态
