Funded by the UK Online for Business Supply Chain Programme, this project examines how e-business is affecting SMEs in UK supply chains. It supports SMEs and large firms in their supply chain relationships through improved understanding of behaviour, culture and capability to exploit fully the range of B2B technologies. A multi-disciplinary team, bringing together supply chain, information systems and SME expertise, has conducted the project.
Four supply chain case studies were carried out in diverse sectors: assistive (medical) technology, construction, computer consumables and apparel (clothing). The case approach was both novel and comprehensive – to interview at three levels – customer, supplier and supplier’s supplier, in order to build up a map of how e- works through a chain of organisations.
