摘 要：网络仿真在今天的通信与网络领域是一个非常重要的技术手段。随着通信技术的发展, 通信网络的结构和规模越来越复杂, 基于网络的应用也越来越多样化, 单纯地依靠经验进行网络的规划和设计、网络设备的研发以及网络协议的开发, 已经不能适应网络的发展需要。因而急需一种科学的手段来反映和预测网络的性能, 这导致了网络仿真技术的应运而生。
要规划和设计一个性能完善的网络系统,光靠理论计算或凭个人的组网经验是无法完成的。如果在真实的网络环境中进行性能研究、网络规划、设计和开发,不仅耗资大,而且在统计数据的收集和分析上也有一定困难。网络仿真是通过在计算机中构造虚拟的环境来反映现实的网络环境, 模拟现实中的网络行为, 从而可以有效提高网络规划和设计的可靠性和准确性, 明显降低网络投资风险, 减少不必要的投资浪费。
在实际工作中,往往通过网络仿真软件来模拟和估算其性能,通过模拟和仿真来调整一些网络参数以期达到最佳的使用效果。
文章介绍了网络仿真的发展历程和现时意义。通过简单概述当前常用的几种仿真软件，研究了它们不同的应用。其中重点分析了基于OPNET 的网络仿真。最后通过使用OPNET Modeler 软件仿真一个局域网来展示利用仿真软件进行仿真所涉及的环节, 并对所仿真网络的性能进行测量。
